The increasing pace of digitalization in industry poses tremendous challenges for the energy sector. Enormous data flow needs to be processed - the linkage between energy and data engineering is inevitable and will play a key role in the implementation of the energy transition. Energy managers will not only have to have a deep understanding of power generation and the underlying energy systems, but also expertise in modern methods of data engineering and analytics. The job profile of an energy data manager is beginning to establish itself, and many more and related careers will follow.

With a strong focus on research and development, Offenburg University has recognized the need for a new generation of highly skilled energy data engineers, and developed a Master’s degree program that meets the new needs of Industry 4.0.
