The aim of the project is to bring digitisation into the area and at the same time to create a hub that physically bundles competences, offers and infrastructure in one place. For this reason, the HUB is spread over several locations in order to be quickly accessible in the region. The catchment area of the HUB extends over the administrative districts of Ortenau, Emmendingen, Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald, Lörrach, Waldshut and the city of Freiburg. Locations are the Lokhalle in Freiburg, the Hochschule Offenburg, the Baden Campus in Breisach and the Innocel in Lörrach.

RIZ becomes the first port of call
The central contact point of the DIGI HUB in the northern catchment area will be the Regional Innovation Centre for Power Engineering of the Offenburg University. RIZ assumes an important representative and bundling function for the partners and companies from the Ortenau district. It also serves as the first point of contact for the companies in the Ortenau district.

The DIGI HUB's mission will be to provide companies, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, with information, guidance, consulting and impulses for the implementation of sustainable, digital solutions. The HUB is intended to provide concrete and tangible help for companies in questions of digitisation, to show them how digitisation contributes to (cost) efficiency, and to open up paths for companies to implement digital transformation. It will also offer itself as a platform for cooperation and testing space for innovations.

Offenburg University already contributes to the challenges the energy sector currently faces by having launched its new Master's degree program Power and Data Engineering last year, where highly skilled data engineers are trained to meet the needs of Industry 4.0.
